The Fitness Truth

So, I get asked a ton of questions about fitness. I would say that one of the most common questions I get is “What workout should I be doing?” I hate this question! I hate it because we in the fitness industry are to blame. We have turned fitness into a multibillion dollar business. We have branded workouts and diets. We have attached names to them as if they are some sort of off the shelf product. The fact however is that workouts are not a product. Workouts are something you are genetically programmed to do. You were born by design to lift things, to move quickly and slowly. You were designed to work. We as humans were all designed to do a few basic movements and not much else beyond that. You don’t need to belong to a “Cult” of the fitness industry. You really only need to move every day. You need to do 3 things 1.) You need to pick up some heavy stuff and sweat and 2.) You need to move quickly (run, jump, bike etc…) and sweat. 3.) Stretch. Static stretch, active, dynamic or do yoga. Just stretch. THAT’S IT! If you want to belong to a group then by all means go ahead just understand that there are a few basics that you should master in the process. I have provided links to the basic movements (thanks to Bodybuilding.com) with pictures descriptions and video to help get you started. Also here is my down and dirty quick start training split to get you started. Keep it simple and Enjoy!

M: Squat and Deadlift (4 Sets of 12-15 for each exercise 60-90 secs rest between sets)

T: Cardio

W: Overhead Press and Chest (4 Sets of 12-15 for each exercise 60-90 secs rest between sets)

Thurs: Cardio

Fri: Pull down and row (4 Sets of 12-15 for each exercise 60-90 secs rest between sets)

Squat

Deadlift

Overhead Press

Chest Press

Lat Pull Down

Seated Row
